Mother and Child™ provides services to support families during the child bearing year and beyond. After experiencing the transformative effects of Whole Birth Yoga with two pregnancies, Shannon trained with it's developer, Robin Sale. Whole Birth Yoga is based in Integral Yoga and emphasizes the Mindfulness work of John Kabat-Zinn. With a personal practice of Kriya and Iyengar yoga, Shannon lovingly supports women as they are born into mothers. She has taught perinatal yoga in Santa Cruz and Los Gatos. She has also served on the Board for Santa Cruz Birth Network and maintains membership with the organization.

Mother and Child™ Prenatal/Prenatal Couple/Postnatal Yoga Class

Prenatal Yoga Class for Mother or Couple:
The goal of the prenatal yoga support classes is to increase physical comfort and instill confidence in women or couples preparing for birth. The classes also provide a much needed supportive environment for women or couples to talk about the physical and emotional changes they are experiencing. Each private, in-home class is structured to the particular needs of the mother or couple as thier pregnancy evolves.
Basic hatha yoga stretches and deep relaxation exercises are adapted to the needs and limitations of pregnant women. The yoga postures develop strength, flexibility, balance and concentration to increase comfort during pregnancy and prepare the body for labor. Couples postures promote connection. The relaxation exercises reinforce the techniques learned in childbirth preparation classes as well as teaching women to maintain these states while working in appropriately challenging positions. This may give them some insight into how the relaxation focus can actually lessen their perception of discomfort.
Finally, time is given for the personal support portion of the class. This provides a special environment where women or couples can feel comfortable to honor the difficulties and celebrate the joys of pregnancy, birth and impending motherhood. The period of sharing offers a sense of normalcy during a time of rapid personal change.
Postpartum Yoga Class:
The goal of the postpartum yoga support classes is to increase physical comfort and instill confidence in women as they become mothers. The classes also provide a much needed supportive environment for women to talk about the physical and emotional changes they are experiencing, reconnect with their bodies and bond with their babies. Each private, in-home class is structured to address the particular needs of the mother and baby as their relationship grows.
Basic hatha yoga stretches and deep relaxation exercises are adapted to the needs and limitations of postpartum women and also to include participation and/or interaction with their babies. The yoga postures develop strength, flexibility, balance and concentration to increase comfort during the postpartum months. The relaxation exercises reinforce the techniques learned in childbirth preparation classes as well as teach women to maintain these states while working in appropriately challenging positions.
Finally, time is given for the personal support portion of the class. This provides a special environment where women can feel comfortable to honor the difficulties and celebrate the joys of motherhood. The period of sharing offers a sense of normalcy during a time of rapid personal change.
Mother and Child™ Infant Massage Class

$50 per 1.5 hour class
Parents and caregivers will learn techniques for reducing colic, gas, congestion and teething discomfort. Promotes bonding, mindful communication and sounder sleep: improves digestion; and helps baby learn to relax. Parents will learn to understand their baby's non-verbal cues. A combination of Swedish, Indian and reflexology techniques will be included.
